Using several factors to determine the world’s largest technopoles, Startup Genome has crunched dataset and considered factors such as number startups per city, funding, business environment, founders’ profiles, network and business ecosystem support, and job opening for skilled workers. Startup Genome published their findings early this week.
Six of the top-10 technopoles are located in America. At the top spot is a region called Silicon Valley which consists of several small and large cities such as San Jose, San Francisco, and others. The region has been known as the center of the world’s largest startup hub since the 1950s. Majority famous technology companies today have decided to call Silicon Valley as their headquarters. San Francisco is now the main office for Twitter. Palo Alto is the founding city for HP computers. Menlo Park is chosen as the headquarters for Facebook social networking web site. Cupertino is the main office of the world’s most valuable company Apple. Mountain View is still the base for the world’s largest search engine known as Googleplex.
Aside of Silicon Valley, other cities in the top-10 are Los Angeles (#3), Seattle (#4), New York City (#5), Boston (#6), and Chicago (#10). Los Angeles ranks as the third largest technolpole in the world. This is due to Hollywood influences in the entertainment and fashion industries.
At #4 is Seattle is located in the Northwest of America. Seattle is the headquarters of Microsoft, the maker of Windows operating system, Office productivity software, Xbox gaming console, and Skype Internet telephone system. Seattle is also the home-base for Amazon online store. In recent year there are several Seattle's companies had gone public including Netflix the world’s largest streaming video provider.
