Majority populations in America are getting less secondhand smoke exposure because of new ordinances which were adopted by state or local to ban indoor smoking. Although the new ordinances have been in place to deter secondhand smoke contact, about 3,400 nonsmokers had died due to lung cancer while about 46,000 had died due to heart disease on yearly basis, as reported by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The CDC's report on smoke-free laws is being published in the November 16 issue of Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.
