Microsoft has decided on the naming convention for the next operating system. It will be called Windows 8. Windows 8 "Consumer Preview" was released on the special leap year day on February 29, 2012. The new OS will come with three editions, Windows 8, Windows 8 Pro, and Windows RT. The new OS will run on computer on new-style with a touch screen, or on old-style with a keyboard and a mouse. For regular users, Windows 8 will be the best choice. For advanced users such as business enterprises, computer programmers, and system admins, Windows 8 Pro is the right product. While for users who will purchase the next generation thin and lightweight PCs and tablets that run on ARM or WOA processors, users must have Windows RT.
Windows 8 standard edition will include all regular set of features similar to Windows 7, plus a new feature which help International users to change the OS into their local language. While Windows 8 Pro will be enhanced with more features to help business users, as Windows team wrote “features for encryption, virtualization, PC management and domain connectivity.”
Windows RT will be shipped as pre-installed OS on new PCs and tablets. This OS will be available only for hardware with ARM or WOA microprocessors, including new generation of hardware that is very thin and lightweight with long battery life. This OS will also improve user interface for Microsoft Office bundle including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote.
