As the new generation of video gamers flocked into Internet to play free games, the number of subscribers for "World of Warcraft" continued to drop each quarter. The recent booming of free Internet games such as CityVille, CastleVille made by Zynga and AngryBirds made by Rovio, had impacted the growth of the Santa Monica, California-based video publisher Activision Blizzard.
As a result of the recent free Internet games, Activision Blizzard must downsize the company by eliminating 600 jobs worldwide. As per a press release, the layoffs will not have any effects on the team that created the popular video games "World of Warcraft" while most of the cuts will be in the customer support department. The company also assured its investors that the downsizings of the company will not be affecting the company's financials this year or the company's earnings forecast in the coming quarters.
