Using a sample of 2,260 adults, age 18 and older, which were surveyed from July 25 to August 26, 2011, the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project found more Americans use of the internet for no good reason at all.
The research study showed that on a regular day, 53% of American young adults in the age group of 18 to 29 year-olds surfing the Internet for no particular reason while most respondents cited just to have fun. The results in this study also found many Americans use the Internet to pass the time at works, schools, or at homes.
The study showed that the amount of time Americans surfing the Web and doing nothing depend on the age group. A small percentage, or 12%, of Internet users in the age group of over 65 year-olds had responded for no good reason, while in the age group of 50 to 64 year-olds, the study found 27% responded for no particular reason to surfing the Internet.
