A new research study found that eating baked or broiled fish will help to tackle heart failure in older women, while eating fried fish may create more problems. The study was based on 84,493 postmenopausal women and conducted by a team of researchers thru the Women's Health Initiative Observational Study. The study of benefit of eating fish is being published in Circulation: Heart Failure, a journal of the American Heart Association.
Citing the study researcher Donald Lloyd-Jones, MD, ScM, of Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine, webmd.com reported that postmenopausal women who consumed at least five servings per week of baked or broiled fish could lower the chance of heart failure by 30%, compared to postmenopausal women who consumed fish less than one time per month.
Best fish for postmenopausal women are dark fish as they contain more omega-3 acids include salmon, mackerel, and bluefish. Other type of fish such as tuna, sole, snapper, and cod, may be less effective to fight heart disease.
