America’s economy turmoil started in 2008 and continues harming TV sales, as many low-income households cannot afford to replace their old TV sets. While around the same time all television networks in America switched from analog system to digital broadcasting. Citing the Nielsen Company report, nytimes.com reported that only 96.7% of American households now have TV sets, compared to previous total of 98.9% (a drop of 2.2%).
Internet generations spent more time in front of their laptop and desktop computers instead of in front of their TV sets. More techies and young adults opt to watch shows and movies from YouTube and other video on demand websites include Hulu, Netflix, etc.
