The very rich software giant Microsoft has too much cash on hand and will spend $8.5 billion in cash to buy Skype communication technology. As per Microsoft press release, the software giant will integrate Skype Internet communication technology into its popular products and services include Xbox Live gaming system, Outlook email system, Live Messenger, Hotmail, and others (maybe Windows Phone 7, Bing decision engine, etc.).
Skype was founded in 2003. In September 2005, the free voice-over-IP company was acquired by eBay. As eBay could not integrate Skype technology into its bidding system, the auction company sold it to Silver Lake in November 2009.
Microsoft said that Skype has 170 million connected users and has over 600 million signups. Within one full year, the VOIP Company accumulated a total of 207 billion minutes of voice and video conversations, as more people use the technology to connect to friends, families and business colleagues worldwide.
