While mobile payment services have already been used in Japan, Turkey and Britain, two top America’s phone carriers, AT&T Inc. and Verizon Wireless, will soon introduce contactless technology for mobile payments. The new venture of AT&T Inc. and Verizon Wireless will compete directly with Visa Inc. and MasterCard Inc., reported bloomberg.com.
Contactless payment mobile apps could one day remove the need of plastic cards (credit and debit cards). Mobile users can make an instant payment at checkout counters with the contactless wave of a smartphone.
According to bloomberg.com, the other main players in this venture will include processing system run by Discover’s payments network. Discover is the number fourth largest payment system in America, behind Visa, MasterCard and Amex.
