One day before the big soccer games between Germany and Spain in the semifinal World Cup 2010, oracle octopus Paul picked Spain to win the match. Many superstitious people in Germany were in shock on the eve of the game. As reuters.com wrote “The container Paul opens first is regarded as his pick for the match.” Paul picked Spain. Spain won 1-0.
While not very common to find many superstitious people in Germany, however, reuters.com reported that “Paul's winning streak may have contributed to a growing superstition among the Germany team.”
