America’s Social Security Administration has released a list of popular baby names for boys and girls for newborns in 2009. Based on the data for 2009, about 21,000 boys were named Jacob which is now the most popular in America. While about 22,000 girls were named Isabella which is now the top baby name for girls in America.
America’s Social Security Administration started collecting and releasing name lists since 1997. This agency also provides lists of baby names back to 100 years ago, exactly up to 1880.
Other top baby names for boys were Ethan, Michael, Alexander and William. While popular baby names for girls were Emma, Olivia, Sophia and Ava.
The list of baby names ranking changed slightly each year, as reported by AP news. Baby names in America usually influenced by pop culture and celebrities (singers, movie stars, and sport figures). And, in 2009 was special with a new president in the White House, so many dads and moms choosing the new president’s name and his family members' name (i.e., Barack, Michele, Malia, Sasha, etc.).
