As high cost of living, higher tax, and economy downturn, a new report published by the Empire Center for New York State Policy, as reported by
nypost.com, shows that over 1.5 million New Yorkers had moved out of the state to other parts of America from year 2000 to 2008. Of those 1.5 million migrants, 1.1 million (73%) were people who used to live in New York City (NYC). According to the report, the state of New York has lost high amount of tax dollars during the period. As
nypost.com wrote "What's worse is that the families fleeing New York are being replaced by lower-income newcomers, who consequently pay less in taxes."
