The end of brink-and-mortar stores: implications of tablet computers and handheld devices on the shrinking stores spaces, as many office-supply businesses are closing down and downsizing shops

As more people in America are conducting their daily life thru tablet computers and handheld devices, the need for buying office-supply has dropped significantly in recent years including PCs, printers, and papers.  At the same time, people are changing their shopping behavior as they are now purchasing stuffs via online.  So, the need of physical stores has reduced significantly.

Office-supply business continued to face new obstacles as one of the well-known brands in America, Staples, is planning to closing down and downsizing shops.  According to the company press release, the top office-supplier in America is reducing the size of physical stores by about 15% by the end of fiscal year of 2015, where it expects to save about $250 million.  The company will close 30 stores in North America, while at the same time it will also downsize 30 stores during fiscal year of 2012.
