Microsoft executives have previously planned to open about 75 additional stores in America over the next few years, and also will expand outside the United States. The world’s largest software company has been running about 25 stores in America, including one in Century City Mall (Los Angeles), and one in South Coast Plaza (Orange County, California).
One of top local newspapers, the Toronto Star, has confirmed that Microsoft has filed for building permits to operate a store at the Yorkdale Mall in Toronto. This store will be the first store outside of the United States.
The latest expansion of Microsoft Stores around the world is considered as part the company’s new strategy to target local buyers thru a brick-and-mortal store. Those stores will act as a distribution channel, especially for the company’s hot products such as Xbox Kinect and the upcoming Surface tablet computer.
