Brazil is now the number two nation in term of total count of Facebook users. In early May 2012, this country has collected 46.3 million Facebook users, as per data provided by socialbakers.com. The number of users has increased 22.2% within the past three months. Brazil surpassed India which now has dropped to the third place with 45.7 million Facebook users. America is still the world’s number one of in term of total count of users with 157.2 million users.
One of the top reasons why Brazil has captured the second place was Google. With a new CEO, Google has focused mainly on building the next generation social media called Google Plus. The search engine giant has forgotten to upgrade its social media known as Orkut in Brazil. Orkut was launched in this popular Samba dancing nation in early 1984. Ever since the start of Orkut , majority Brazilian has only utilized this social networking to connect with friends and family members. Brazilians did not use other social media providers including the world’s largest Facebook. However, most people started to switch to Facebook slowly in the past few years, and finally Facebook’s users count had passed Orkut’s users count in early 2012.
According to socialbakers.com, other explanations for Brazil taking the second spot was also with the help of local companies' marketers in industry such as beauty and fashion who have utilized Facebook to attract more fans to their promotion sites via Facebook pages.
