One of the top ten website in America, Wikimedia Foundation, a non-profit organization that runs Wikipedia.com and several web sites announced that they have raised $20 million in the fiscal year of 2011. Last week nielsen.com ranked Wikipedia.com as the eighth most visited website brand in America. The 2011’s total donations were compiled from more than one million donors.
Wikimedia Foundation Internet properties include Wikipedia.com which is considered as the largest encyclopedia that transfers knowledge among Internets users worldwide. The popular site is supported by donations from volunteers and readers. The Foundation believes that over 100,000 volunteers work on all its Internet properties. By mid-January 2012, the non-advertising site will celebrate its 11th birthday. Wikipedia contents include over 20 million articles and cover all languages in the world. The Foundation also claimed its Internet properties serve over 470 million people per month worldwide.
